Seiko Men's SKX007K Diver's Automatic Watch Review

Seiko Men's SKX007K Diver's Automatic Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My uncle had been wearing the Seiko SKX007 (although his may be a different model number) since the early 80s. I was a little kid back then and I may not have consciously noticed his watch, But his watch must have left some impact, because I've always been partial to divers watches, and currently own several. These include two quartz Bulovas, one quartz Swatch, and most recently an automatic Omega Seamaster Professional (the James Bond model). The Bulovas were OK, the Swatch is a piece of garbage, and the Omega is just a delight to own.
And yet, none of these ever seemed to match my mind's idealized image of what a divers watch should be.
A short time after buying the Omega, I came across the Seiko on some watch aficionado website. I recognized it as the watch my uncle has worn all these years and was surprised to realize that this very watch was the image against which I judged all other diver watches. I wanted it badly. But having just spent a bundle on a watch I couldn't justify the purchase.
Until the end of December. Out of nowhere, my not-a-year-old Omega started gaining close to an hour a day!! A bizarre circumstance followed by an immediate delivery to the local Omega authorized dealer. It would take nearly a month until my watch was repaired and returned.
What's a guy to do? I knew .... I went to Amazon and bought the Seiko I always wanted. An automatic and the less expensive model; the pricier model has square number markers, not circles.
Always the pessimist, I prepared myself for disappointment. I hadn't seen my uncle's watch for some time and just expected a let down of some sort. I was concerned the face would just look radically different from what I hoped for, and I'd be stuck with a watch I didn't want to wear. And despite my fears, I kept heading to the window all morning on the day the watch was scheduled to arrive.
Finally, the UPS truck pulled up in front of my house and sure enough, he was holding my new "replacement" watch. I opened the box and out came the watch I always wanted --- looking and feeling exactly as I had wished.
Now I regularly alternate between my $2000 Omega and my $200 Seiko. It keeps perfect time! It is aesthetically fantastic! And it just feels great on my wrist! It is big, and the rubber band is not elegant. But 'not elegant' in the sense that it looks out of place when I wear it with a suit. But in any other situation, it looks just right.
Here are some observations: The face is beautiful. The band is thick and rugged, the antithesis of cheap or flimsy. The luminescence stays luminescent for hours into the dark. The automatic second hand sweep is graceful and solid. The case is unbrushed steel, substantial in weight, and heavy-duty like industrial strength machinery. The top of the lugs are brushed steel and the contrast only enhances the watch's natural good looks. The screw-down crown is BIG and has deep grooves, which makes it easy to screw and unscrew, not to mention set.
The bezel is my favorite feature because the grooves on the side are designed for serious use. If you want to turn that unidirectional bezel, be assured -- it will not slip. The watch is so solid that you can only conclude that conventional opinion, at least someone still makes it like they used to.
For balance, I'll mention the one and only aspect of the watch that I would prefer were different. You cannot stop the second hand. Even as you're setting the time, the second hand continues to move, making it impossible to perfectly synchronize the watch with an atomic clock. Then again, hopefully not everyone is like me, and has to have a perfectly synchronized watch.
To conclude, obviously I highly, highly recommend the Seiko SKX007. Keep in mind: if hard-core diver watches are NOT your thing, you may quickly realize that this watch is way too much watch to handle. But if you're a diver watch lover like me -- even if, like me, you've never worn a wet suit in your life -- this watch is as much the real deal as you'll ever get.

Casio Men's MTP1225A-8AV Tough Solar Analog Watch Review

Casio Men's MTP1225A-8AV Tough Solar Analog Watch

The only negatives that I can see for this watch is it's weight which is very heavy and that the digital text is too small. But, it was made to be tough and it accomplishes that very well.

You'll be dressed for success with this Casio Tough stainless steel men's analog/digital watch (MTP1225A-8AV), but it's also durable enough to handle your active lifestyle outside of the office. The large, round silver stainless steel watch case measures 38mm (1.5 inches wide) and is topped by a raised bezel with an interior purple dial with silver 5-minute marks and small minute indexes. The silver stainless steel bracelet band flows seamlessly and tapers slightly from the case, and it's joined by a secure fold-over clasp. The dark green dial face is complemented by silver triangular markers, thin silver hands (with seconds hand), and a digital day/date function at 3 o'clock. This watch is water resistant to 100 meters (10 ATM, 330 feet), suitable for recreational snorkeling. Citizen Men's BN0000-04H Eco-Drive Professional Diver Black Rubber Strap Watch Review

Citizen Men's BN0000-04H Eco-Drive Professional Diver Black Rubber Strap Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pros:
Citizen's BN0000-04H has something unique. It may not carry the weight of a TAG Heuer, Omega, Rolex, or other sport-dive watch (in cold hard $, "prestige", or actual literal heaviness for sure), but it really has charm.
With this watch you get the superior time-keeping qualities of a high-grade japanese quartz movement (quartz always runs on a battery - yes, there is a specially-engineered titanium-manganese battery in there) but without the need for any battery change, ever (at least 20 years by Citizen engineers' estimates). This movement blows automatics out of the water in time-keeping. It doesn't have the fluid sweep of an automatic's second hand (it ticks in 1-second intervals), but for me keeping time is what counts in a watch, right?
This is a set-it-and-forget-it watch. It will keep on trucking about 6-months in total darkness from a full charge. And if it does stop, it'll come out of it to full accurate time-keeping with just 15 minutes in the summer sunshine. It will run a whole 24 hour time-cycle with only 4 minutes of light exposure. Eco-Drive is the new deal in watch movement. [EDIT: Not to mention the battery inside is specially made non-toxic. It's a green machine.]
As to its pedigree, it's a real ISO-rated dive watch. There's an easy way to tell with Citizens: if there's an M after the depth rating on the face, it's ISO-rated. This isn't just my theory, this is from Citizen's own product info. This watch wants to see dive time.
The watch face, which some call cramped, feels to me like looking through a porthole in a submarine or something. It's a little deep. I can tell the time just fine. The hour dots are legible in all kinds of light situations. The lume is about as good as Seiko's lumibrite, which is to say, pretty darn good. But it's no Luminox to be sure. [EDIT: The lume, in my tests, lasts well over a 12 hour cycle in total darkness from just 15 seconds of direct charging with a flashlight. Don't think it's bright at all after those 12 hours, though. But it does have a really nice greenish glow when charged.]
The mineral-crystal is domed, but you can see the time even at a pretty sharp angle. I like the dome, goes with the porthole feel. The face also bears a really nicely done little pyramid-shaped grid pattern. That might be the solar cell, but either way, it's beautiful the way it picks up light.
With the hands, some say they're "phallic" but I think they look more like lit candles. Haven't seen hands like them anywhere, and I get bored with all the pointed-arrow and straight-line designs. And they're nice, fat and visible in the dark. Furthermore, everything's outlined in chrome. Has the look of quality engineering.
[EDIT: The second hand lines up almost perfect with the little markers on the beveled inside edge. It's perfect, spot-on precise 50-59 seconds out of a minute on mine, but it isn't perfect every single time. And it varies from minute to minute which 1-10 markers it misses (but it always nails 30-60 for some reason). You'd never notice, however, unless you put the watch right up to your face and stare at it like a crazy person like I did before writing this. That's a very small amount of play in the movement, and for this price, is impressive. You get the same movement in even the more expensive Eco-Drive divers, by the way (for example, the one with the bright blue face, and the famed "Eco-Zilla"). The minute and hour hands, however, are exact on this, every time.]
As to the date window, I like it small. Generally I know what day it is. I don't need that information taking up half of my watch face. But I even like the font used on it. Looks like it could be used on a Navy decompression table.
The bezel is 60-clicks, compared with Seiko's 120, so it feels a little rough. But I like having it at 60. It's more precise. I'm not going to need to time a half-minute of anything with the rotating bezel, ever. [EDIT: I make perfect pasta by using the bezel, by the way. Impresses the girlfriend. Thumbs up here. Also times parking meters. No more tickets for me. Furthermore, the bezel "breaks-in" after a little while and the spring doesn't feel so choppy.]
The band is really soft. It's not hard or stiff, like others say. It feels like high-grade dive rubber. But I have smaller wrists, it could press into some bigger guys'. The watch looks great on smaller wrists, by the way, due to it's smaller size. Doesn't make me look like a wuss. Big plus there. [EDIT: And due to the friction grid-pattern on the back of the band, it doesn't move around on the wrist at all. It's planted on there now.]
And did I mention the case IS ONE SOLID PIECE OF STAINLESS STEEL? I can't get over that. I haven't seen that on any watch in any price-range. [EDIT: The case is specially cast in a mold from molten steel, not machined.] Just cool. Citizen is so confident in their engineering, they make it that much harder to open. And for water to get in, remember, 300M = 1,000 ft.
Cons:
The screw-down crown. Don't get me wrong, it has a quality feel (doesn't wobble when pulled out) and does it's job. But I'm not going to lie, it's hard to get it screwed down and hard to get it unscrewed because of the steel lip that surrounds it. Seiko's design on the classic SKX007K, for example, is better. However, remember that quartz movement? You'll only need to unscrew that crown about 5 times a year, to set the date for the months without 31 days.
The bezel has printed numbers. These seem pretty durable, whatever they're made of, and I haven't scuffed them yet even after some direct hits. But how much harder would it have been to have the numbers pressed into the bezel?
The crystal is not recessed in the bezel much at all. It'll pick up dings/surface scratches. But hey, it's an affordable watch. It deserves some character. Do not get that crystal anywhere near a brilo-pad though, say, when washing dishes. You'll regret it. It ain't sapphire. [EDIT: And it ain't 2K so who's complaining?]
Summmary:
All in all, great watch with a lot of character. Keeps great time. Comfortable = Not one sharp edge on the thing. Not heavy = forget it's even there. No battery change! One piece of steel! Eco-Drive is fail-safe technology. This watch will give you at least 20 years of maintainence-free time-keeping. And look good doing it.

Casio Men's WVA320J-1E Atomic Tough Solar Waveceptor Sports Watch Review

Casio Men's WVA320J-1E Atomic Tough Solar Waveceptor Sports Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The watch looks better in person than it does in the pictures. I recommend going to a brick and mortar store before committing on Amazon. The watch looks much better with an after-market nylon zulu/nato strap. Another version with a steel bracelet is offered, but I've heard that the quality on the bracelet is not great, so I recommend after-market bracelets (watch has standard 22mm lugs). The lume on the hands is very bright, unfortunately, the rest of the lume is a little dim, not sure if that is meant on purpose. Weak lume is a non-issue since the watch has a electric light that adequately illuminates the watch. The digital display can be used for a number of things, not just weekday and calendar day indication. It can also display different time zone times, power meter, stop watch, digital time, digital second indicator... etc. Its really cool to see that the digital time is exactly synchronized with the analog time. THIS IS NOT A DIVE WATCH! As far as a I can tell, the watch is not rated for diving, but it is styled after dive watches so I find that a little misleading. The bezel is unidirectional with 120 clicks. The atomic synchronization doesn't seem to work well here in Miami, reception from FT. Collins is poor to non-existent, but that is not Casio's fault. NIST has plans to build a station that will cover the east coast of the US but plans are not set in stone or near the horizon, so I wouldn't hold my breath. Bought the watch at $120 from Amazon (noticed the price went up :( Initially was told that the watch would ship in 1 month! but the actual ship time was a lot shorter in reality. I agree with another reviewer that the watch was a little confusing to setup initially and that the manual was a little confusing but eventually you will figure it out with a little patience.
Bottomline --- Watch is not perfect, it is not dive rated but is probably well suited for all other water activities. Packs plenty of high-tech features in a classic appearance. If you like the dive watch style but don't want the clunkiness of a dive watch, this is it. Casio reliability and quality is legendary.

Based on the best-selling AMW320 case design, the Casio Men's Atomic Tough Solar Waveceptor Sports Watch #WVA320J-1E is more powerful and more accurate than ever thanks to Casio's Solar Power and Waveceptor Atomic Timekeeping technology. With its classic dive style design (which include features like a rotating bezel, resin band, and an LED display built into its bold, black dial), this handsome timepiece is ready for a day at the office or inspection by the ship's divemaster. The watch's reliable Japanese quartz movement is solar powered--which can accurately keep time up to six months without further exposure to light. And if you're in the US or Japan, the watch receives time calibration radio signals (up to six times per day), so you always know your watch is set to the right time. Other technical features include three daily alarms, an LED light with Afterglow technology, Neo-Brite luminous hands and markers, a stopwatch that records split time, a calendar (pre-programmed until the year 2099), 12- and 24-hour formats, and water resistance to 330 feet (100 meters).

Casio Women's Watch BG180DM-2B Review

Casio Women's Watch BG180DM-2B
Average Reviews:

This is a large and thick watch, OK for sports/casual if you can get used to the bulk. The metal bezel is a step up from the cheap plastic Baby G's & Timex Ironman, etc. Easy to read as a previous reviewer stated. Buttons are recessed so a little challenging to set. My main complaint is if you think the watch is large, the band is HUMONGOUS. The description claims it's a cloth band but it is leather(?) on the inside, stiff & thick & doesn't breathe. I ordered a 3/4 inch nylon band which you can thread through after you cut their band off. Seems to be working well so far.

Decidedly contemporary in looks with sleek, straight modern lines, this Casio Baby-G women's digital watch (model BG180-1V) also offers powerful sports timekeeping features. It features a durable black resin case that's topped by a square silver top ring. This shock-resistant timepiece is a great companion for your active lifestyle, offering a 1/100-second stopwatch with a 60-minute measuring capacity and elapsed time, split time, and 1st/2nd place time modes as well as a 24-hour countdown timer. This watch is water resistant to 100 meters (330 feet), suitable for recreational snorkeling. It also offers such timekeeping functions as 12/24-hour formats, multi-function alarm, and year/month/date/day display (with an autocalendar to the year 2039). Other features include scratch-resistant mineral crystal, AfterGlow LED electro-luminescent backlight, and battery life of up to 2 years. History of G-Shock: In 1983, Casio launched the shock-resistant G-SHOCK watch. This product shattered the notion that a watch is a fragile piece of jewelry that needs to be handled with care, and was the result of Casio engineers taking on the challenge of creating the worlds toughest watch. Using a triple-protection design for the parts, module, and case, the G-SHOCK offered a radical new type of watch that was unaffected by strong impacts or shaking. Its practicality was immediately recognized, and its unique look, which embodied its functionality, became wildly popular, resulting in explosive sales in the early 1990s. The G-SHOCK soon adopted various new sensors, solar-powered radio-controlled technology (described below), and new materials for even better durability. By always employing the latest technology, and continuing to transcend conventional thinking about the watch, the G-SHOCK brand has become Casios flagship timepiece product.

This is a fantastic timepiece, nothing at all to envy to swatch or other, quality is easy to see, this is not a simple crap.
Pros: Chronograph easy to use, very tough, looks really good in stetic terms, can be used as a dress watch but also like semi sport, instructions are very clear.
Cons: sometimes could be a little heavy, although hands have their own green glow a backlight o neon light just like casio edifice EFL-108 would have been very much apreciated.
i have nothing to say about this, i mean nothing bad, this is one of the best watches i've ever had, there are some points to correct to make it the perfect watch, but come on, nothing is perfect and this is a really good piece.

Casio Men's G7700-1 G-Shock Trainer Multi-Function Shock Resistant Watch Review

Casio Men's G7700-1 G-Shock Trainer Multi-Function Shock Resistant Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this watch a week ago at an unbeatable price of $47 incl. tax and shipping (almost 50% off the RRP). What I wanted was a watch that was useful for athletic training (I'm an avid runner and swimmer). What I received was a superb well-rounded G-Shock that surpassed my expectations regarding the purpose of the watch, one that has several unique features that other G-Shocks presently do not feature:
*1/1000 stopwatch with split and 999 lap time functions--perfect for athletic training, getting splits etc. while running or swimming.
*Auto-start feature--a 5 second countdown prior to starting the stopwatch, with cool animated graphics.
*2 100-hour countdown timers, adjustable to the second--ideal for interval training on long runs.
*Customizable alarms for weekend and weekday--great for people like me who have to wake up at 7am on weekdays and noon on weekends without having to constantly switch on/off different alarms.
*Customizable hourly signal--set it so that it only beeps on the hour during any specified period (ie. 7am-11pm), so that it doesn't beep while sleeping.
*Flash alert--red and green LEDs go off in sync with the alarms and stopwatch auto-start systems. With the stopwatch auto-start, the LEDs are employed to create a cool motor races effect by having red lights going off in sync with the countdown and green lights going off at the start itself.
Other features of the watch:
*World time in 48 cities--48 cities is new for me, previous G-Shocks only had 27 or so, perfect for frequent travelers like me.
*EL backlight (blue-green) with auto-EL function.
*A very comfortable strap with good fit, and a thin case (by G-Shock standards) makes for one of the most easy-to-wear G-Shocks ever.
*Buttons are extremely easy to push. Some users have complained that the "G" button on the front of the watch, which activates the EL backlight, is hard to press; that wasn't the case for me.
Some cons:
*EL backlight duration (1 second)--too short for me, especially on a display with so much information, presumably to increase battery life. 2 or 3 seconds would be ideal.
*Non-solar powered--given all the power-hungry features of this watch, solar power would be ideal, so as not to worry about running down the batteries with all the alarms, lights and all.
However, these are minor issues. I'm sure this watch would suit anyone out there--by far one of the most feature-packed yet comfortable-to-wear and stylish G-Shocks out there, perfect for any occasion.

Unless you live in the tropics, the Casio solar watches are totally worthless and their customer support doesn't work at all. I bought this watch about 6 months ago, ok in the summer when you're outside all the time and not wearing a coat outside. Aparently Casio has never heard of winter, where people wear coats and stay inside most of the time. The watch now after charging in a window all day will hold a charge for maybe 4 hours. Absolutely worthless. Try to Email them and their server won't take the mail. Save you money!

Average Reviews:

This model has been out for a long time. I like the look of the black more then the white or gold. The reason the watch loses one star is because the band. It looks great, but the rubber will wear out and break in about a year. The replacement band that Casio offers looks close the orginal, but not exactly the same. I lost one of these, and another was stolen. So the fact that I am on my third is a statement to how much I love this watch. I have been wearing it since about 1993.

Stylish enough for the boardroom but rugged enough for the wakeboard, the Casio Marine stainless steel analog-digital watch for men (model AMW320R-1EV) combines the timeless look of an analog watch with the functionality of a digital watch. This analog digital combination allows you to see up to 2 times or the date with day of the week. The round silver stainless steel case measures 45mm wide (1.77 inches), and it's complemented by a black resin sports strap. Casio Men's AMW340-1A Analog Diver Resin Strap Watch Review

Casio Men's AMW340-1A Analog Diver Resin Strap Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a smaller sized diving watch. It is not too small, though. It is actually nice sized, and reasonably lightweight. The LCD screen is actually larger than the one on Casio's classic large face dive watch (AMW 320). The improvements that would be great for this watch would be some kind of illumination of either the actual face (and sweep hands), or the LCD screen. The sweep hands are luminous, as good as any Casio luminous hands. Another improvement would be a better positioning of the AM/PM designation in the LCD screen, which is nearly impossible to read because it is postioned so high. To overcome this lack, when setting an alarm, you can toggle to 24 hour time to make sure your 6AM is AM indeed. Another feature I would personally have liked (which is the only reason I returned the watch) is a countdown timer. The LCD format does not have that one feature, which I happen to use frequently. Bottom line: Great watch if you're OK without a countdown timer and without illumination.

Citizen Men's JY0005-50E Eco-Drive Skyhawk A-T Watch Review

Citizen Men's JY0005-50E Eco-Drive Skyhawk A-T Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just got mine the other day. I own four other Citizen Eco-drive models. They've all been trouble-free and continue to function to this day. The oldest is an 8-year old titaniam diver model. I wanted this new Citizen because it's all black and it's atomic clock accurate. This is a huge watch, but seems to sit well on my smaller wrist. Resizing the band was a bit of a pain as the pins are rather hard to push out. Also, the band is not very flexible, so it doesn't fit as well on a smaller wrist. The one thing that really stood out to me was that the clasp on this watch is of much lower quality than my older citizens with metal bands. This one is made of stamped stainless steel. All my other Citizens have clasps made of thicker solid steel. The watch case itself is solid steel and appears very solid. However, the back is snap-on...eek! Citizen has really gone cheap here. I'd expect that a watch at this price level to have a screw-in back...not a snap-on like a Timex! All my previous Citizen's had screw-in backs. I know that the Japan-only titanium version of this watch has a screw-in back and a solid titanium clasp. This watch is coated black and only time will tell how durable it is. I suspect that eventually the black on the clasp will start wearing off since that's usually where most of the rubbing takes place. The crystal is made of mineral glass and is slightly domed, so at certain angles, you will get reflections. Overall, I love this watch because it looks great and is super accurate. I just wish that Citizen didn't cut down on the quality of the clasp and back to save a few bucks. One other annoying thing is that to access the various functions of the watch (calendar, countdown, chronograph etc), you have to pull out the crown and rotate it. A bit annoying if you use the functions a lot.
Pros:
- very nice looking watch
- fit and finish are top-notch
- bracelet is made from solid links. Not cheap folded metal.
- 200m water resistant
- bezel rotates smoothly
- picks up atomic clock signal in Japan, Europe and North America
- LCD display is backlit, so you can see it at night at the press of a button.
- Eco-drive a proven and reliable technology
Cons:
- cheap clasp
- snap-on back
- metal band not very flexible so if you have a small wrist, you might have large gaps on the sides of the wrist.
- black coating is not protected, so it will eventually wear off.
- crystal prone to reflections

Casio Men's AQ150W-1EV Ana-Digi Chronograph Sport Watch Review

Casio Men's AQ150W-1EV Ana-Digi Chronograph Sport Watch
Average Reviews:

got this watch on sale at sears for around 25$ i needed an alarm but hate the all digital watches and couldn't afford an all analog watch with alarm and chrono so i got this. casio makes way more analog/digital combo watches that any other maker. this watch is fantastic, large buttons, simple digital functions, you got the time on top then month, day and day of week on bottom. then alarm, stopwatch and a second timezone if you need that on bottom instead of the date..illuminator blue light lights up analog and digital display.. if i could change one thing i would give this watch a glass crystal because after a while you get scratches because its a plastic face. But all you need is to buff it with 'white paste style toothpaste' and it looks brand new again. Some people might have trouble reading the digital display, its not very big.

Casio Men's MQ24-7B Analog Black Resin Strap Watch Review

Casio Men's MQ24-7B Analog Black Resin Strap Watch
Average Reviews:

It is hard to distinguish a significant difference between this watch and the Casio - MQ247B2 which is fifty cents cheaper, but apparently this one might have a better crystal and band. In any case I replace the band with woven cloth as soon as possible because of irrtitation from sweat.
This is definitely the watch to get, once you replace the band. It is clearly visible under nearly any situation and surely beats a digital.
Find out how much shipping will cost. It coudl raise the price fifty per cent. Find out whether they will ship to your address. If it is overseas or a POB (or even AP) they may not. But this is the watch to go for rather than any other. If you need a calendar as well, put one on your wall or buy a newspaper. When you need to know the time, you can count on this watch to clearly provide the information you seek.

Citizen Men's AJ0100-02E Professional Diver Black Rubber Strap Quartz Watch Review

Citizen Men's AJ0100-02E Professional Diver Black Rubber Strap Quartz Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love the look of this watch! I have enjoyed it for almost two weeks now and it has kept perfect time to date.
Originally I was attracted to the Seiko SKX173 which I came across first. However I was concerned that the physical size of the Seiko might be too large for my wrist plus reviews indicated its automatic/mechanical movement might not be as accurate as I wanted.
Later I found this Citizen watch which looks virtually identical, yet it is smaller (diameter 38mm vs 43, height 10.5mm vs 13.5), and has a more accurate battery-driven quartz movement.
It also has a longer warranty (5 years vs 3) which probably indicates that the movement is more likely to be trouble-free than the self-winding Seiko.
The only negative I have encountered is that it (as well as the Seiko) come with a fairly bulky rubber strap. While this is more comfortable than I expected, it does tend to interfere somewhat with the drape of the cuff when wearing a long sleeve shirt.
