Casio Men's GW700A-1V G-Shock Solar Atomic Watch Review

Casio Men's GW700A-1V G-Shock Solar Atomic Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the best digital watch I have had. The other watches were "water resistant" but I found out that the water resistance went out the window once the seal was broken by replacing the battery which always seemed to be needed sooner than I expected. Since this is a solar watch I do not expect to have to replace the battery (and break the seal) for years. It was charged and at the correct time out of the box. It automatically resets the time every day from a signal in Fort Collins, CO. (No problem in IN) which is supposed to cover all of the USA. It also adjusted automatically to DST. In addition it has 5 alarms which are easy to set so I have used them through the day as reminders. The weak "link" so to speak may be the plastic band. It will likely break before the watch and I'm not sure it can be replaced.

The perfect training partner for your active sporting lifestyle, this Casio G-Shock men's digital sport watch (model GW700A-1V) offers a black resin case that's accented by a silver top ring and light digital gray display as well as a black resin strap. It's also solar-powered and wirelessly receives atomic time updates. It offers a 1/100-second stopwatch with a 60-minute measuring capacity and a time recorder with up to 30 records, It also features four independent daily alarms (with one snooze alarm), world time from 30 cities, and an autocalendar (to the year 2039). And because it's solar-powered--charging in either sunlight or indoor light--you'll never have to deal with changing the battery. Other features include a scratch-resistant mineral crystal, AfterGlow LED electro-luminescent backlight, and water resistance to 200 meters (660 feet)--suitable for recreational scuba diving.
This radio-controlled watch receives a time calibration signal transmitted from Fort Collins, Colorado, and signal reception is possible within a radius of about 2,000 miles from the Fort Collins transmitter. You can choose to automatically receive this signal four times a day, or manually update the watch to the atomic clock.

Casio GW500A-1V G-Shock Atomic Solar Watch Review

Casio GW500A-1V G-Shock Atomic Solar Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Having owned the GW500AJP-1AV for a week, here are my thoughts on some of the points raised by the reviewers of this and other G-Shock models:
1. In my opinion, concerns about the thickness of the watch have been overstated. Certainly, if slimness is an *important* criterion for you, this isn't your watch. But you'll have no trouble fitting it under your shirt cuff. [Though the manual cautions that doing so will hamper the solar function.] Even my ridiculously slender wrists support it - physically and (I hope) esthetically - without difficulty.
2. The G-Shock models are advertised as rugged. I'm not about to use mine as a hockey puck to put that to the test. But it certainly *feels* sturdy. [The thickness helps here.] And from what I've read about them elsewhere, they do shrug off a considerable amount of punishment.
3. Everyone's experience with receiving the timekeeping signal from Fort Collins will vary depending on the particulars of their location and the attention they pay to the manual. I live only 350 miles from the transmitter but with modestly sized mountains in between - which can be a dealbreaker. Although it took a longer period of motionlessness for the watch to lock in than the manual had told me to allow, it has received a strong signal ever since. [And keep in mind that the watch is accurate to 15 seconds a month even without synchronization.]
3. When I first unpacked the watch, the battery level was at Medium - which you would expect after it having been in a box for who knows how long. After 3 hours of direct exposure to bright sunlight [which you should do in the early morning to keep the watch from roasting], the battery level has remained High ever since.
4. The four control buttons are slightly recessed - for decreased vulnerability, I imagine. This means you will need to operate them with a directly perpendicular press by the edge of your fingernail, rather than an angled mashing under the meat of your fingertip. I can see why this irritates some people. [It did require a small mental adjustment on my part.] However, I think it was a legitimate design decision.
5. The leftmost of the three circular "gauges" at the top of the display is meant to mimic the sweep of a minute hand on an analog watch. Speaking as someone whose attachment to that visual "pie-slice" style of time reading has been my main reason for sticking with analog watches until now, I think it's a terrific idea. In practice, though, the gauge is too small to be useful for that purpose. [For my eyes, anyway.] However, I don't mind particularly - since I think the three gauges look cool simply as decoration.
6. Someone else commented that the black resin wrist band is not replaceable. I'm not sure if that's true. However, replacing it would be no casual affair. So if you won't be content with this kind of band, you should look for a different watch. I prefer leather bands myself. But this one is in keeping with the toughness of the rest of the watch and certainly comfortable enough to wear.
On the whole, I'm very happy with this purchase. If you enjoy having an accurately set timepiece - and who doesn't? - it's difficult to overstate the satisfaction of radio-synchronization. A good mechanical watch is accurate to 5 seconds a day. A good quartz watch is accurate to less than 1 second a day. As long as it's in signal range, this watch will be accurate to less than 1 second for the next 60 million years [http://tf.nist.gov/cesium/fountain.htm] - or at least until the US government stops broadcasting, at which point you'll probably have other things to worry about. When someone asks you for the time, you will be able to give them *The* time.

This watch is awsome. It has 5 alarms, stopwatch, automatic calendar, timer, light, and is waterproof. What more could you ask for. It feels very sturdy and is definately no cheap Drug store watch. I have owned 3 to 4 hundred dollar watches and this one takes the cake. Simple yet sophisticated design, comfortable, and less than 75 bucks shipped express. There is no better deal out there, I've searched. All in all this is no TAG but for the money it blows away all the other watches in this price range and even more expensive ones. Don't think just buy it, you wont regret it.

G-Shock Men's Watch G-Shock Vibration Alarm G-7510-1VDR - WW Review

G-Shock Men's Watch G-Shock Vibration Alarm G-7510-1VDR - WW
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This watch is exactly what I needed. As an absented minded hearing impaired person now doing more of the household cooking, I've been burning dinner not hearing the stove timer. The timer function with vibration alarm has solved this problem! Now I read, attend to other projects or just daydream without worry. The alarm function is great too. I can set the alarm for waking without concern for waking my wife or slip out to finish sleeping on the couch without worry about missing my alarm. I've not managed to sleep through the alarm yet, though as I'm not a deep sleeper I don't know how this would work for someone who is.
The watch is large and fairly ugly so I don't wear it unless I need the timing and alarm functions--which I'm finding is quite often.

This is a great watch. Casio has been a favorite of mine since I was a teenager. The only flaw with the Mudman is the negative display. It's a bit hard to see the digits. That is the only problem that I have with the Mudman. Besides that, it's built like a freaking tank.

Casio Men's GW7900B-1 G-Shock Solar Atomic Black Digital Sport Watch Review

Casio Men's GW7900B-1 G-Shock Solar Atomic Black Digital Sport Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Top 10 Gadgets of 2009 (Rated #8) according to Time magazine. This is my first G-Shock and first watch with an inverted display. I wanted a sturdy watch that I wouldn't feel would break if I banged into something. I have several Citizen, Tissot watches that I just felt were to prone to being scratched/destroyed.
I'm very happy with the design/look of this watch. The pictures (as of today) on Amazon are distorted and don't do justice to the look of the watch. While this watch is a very large watch compared to some of the other G's, it feels nice and comfortable on my wrist.
I wanted a watch for functions as well as reliability. With the watch being solar powered, along with an atomic feature makes this watch a must have. The watch has alarm's, timer, dedicated button (the G button) to the light which is very nice (can work in any mode), 2nd time zone, world time, etc.
I've gone through a lot of watches in my time but this by far is one of my favorites and is a must have in your collection if you're looking for a reliable, sturdy, function filled watch!
1/5/10 Follow-up:
Since I'm an avid Scuba Diver, I wanted to know if this particular watch can be operated underwater (switching through operations on the watch).
This is the response I got from Casio-
"Dear Mr. Travale,

The GW7900B-1 has a water resistance of up to 200M. These models do permit underwater button operation.

We hope that we were able to assist you with your question and again, thank you for contacting CASIO AMERICA."

G-SHOCK MUDMAN MILITARY SERIES WATCH G9000MS-1 Review

G-SHOCK MUDMAN MILITARY SERIES WATCH G9000MS-1
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This watch is utterly unimpressive. It's features are hard to access due to the rigidity of the buttons and it is fairly complicated to adjust the watch even after you've accessed the features. There is nothing distinctive or special about this watch that would set it apart from dozens of other GShock models that cost much less. Another isssue is that the watch is not particularly large or tough. Perhaps Casio should call this watch a Mud - person watch rather than a Mud - Man watch. If you are planning on buying this watch for a service member, I can tell you as a former Marine myself, ease of use is highly valued in the military. Don't waste your money on features that most service people wouldn't use.

Casio Men's GW6900-1 G-Shock Atomic Digital Sport Watch Review

Casio Men's GW6900-1 G-Shock Atomic Digital Sport Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my first Casio watch and up until the time of purchase, I had been one of those "$5-$20 cheap-o sport watch" buyers. So if I were going to spend anything around $90 for a sport watch I would need to make sure it was worth the cost. After reading an article on a men's health/lifestyle website about fashion ([...], I think), they recommended the g-shock series by Casio since they offer a lot of functions and good quality for around $90. I found the GW6900-1 on sale for around $70 and I decided to buy it figuring I could always return it later if it didn't work out. Here are my observations on the two main selling points...
Design: The GW6900-1 is very basic. It's modeled off of the original DW6900 (Casio Men's G-Shock Classic Digital Watch #DW6900-1V) which is apparently G-Shock's best-selling case design. Personally, I feel that the numbers on the display are a little small. But I really like how it's not too crowded or junked up by unnecessary frills. The three circular dials above the time/day/date display are quite simple and indicate 1) the battery strength, 2) which functions are enabled (alarm, snooze alarm, hour signal beep, auto EL and button mute) and 3) a 10-second count indicator. The case/band isn't the sleekest looking - there are more modern styles out there - but it's not ugly by any means. Also, it's a little on the bulky side (doesn't exactly fit under a shirt cuff), but I don't feel it eats up my entire wrist. The 4 function buttons are easy to press and their labels are nice and straight-forward with alternate operations shown just inside the frame. Very easy to follow and operate.
Functions: The product description above pretty much lays out all the cool stuff this watch has going on for it, so I'll try not to be redundant here. I do want to highlight some of the operations that make this worth the price tag.
- Auto-EL (electro-luminescent): One thing that impressed me about this watch even before I put it on was the "smart" back-light. As I removed it from the box, I noticed the back-light come on. I thought something was wrong with it at first, but as I read through the manual I learned that this nifty function is *supposed* to happen. The watch's light turns on for about 1.5 seconds (or 3, your choice) in a dark room when you tilt your wrist towards your eyes without the need to press the button. How cool is that?! You can disable this to save on battery life if you want, but I doubt it's all that necessary. Which brings me to...
- Battery Life: This sucker is equipped with a solar powered battery that lasts up to 10 months on a full charge. Further exposure to light will keep it going and that goes for everything from direct sunlight, to light filtered through windows even to fluorescent lighting found in most buildings. Chances are good that given the amount of interaction most humans have with the sun or other light sources, you won't need to worry about this dying on you anytime soon. (That is unless you're a vampire or really into the goth scene.) Also, it has a power-saving mode you can apply that causes the watch to go into "sleep" mode during the hours of 11pm and 6am.
- Atomic Timekeeping: Like pretty much every cell phone, this watch calibrates time automatically. But it does it in 48 cities across 31 times zones all while taking daylight saving into account. And it runs about 5-6 times in the wee hours of morning just to make sure. (You can set time yourself too if you'd like.) Also, it's classified as multi-band 6 which means it automatically receives signals from pretty much every main radio point around the world (U.S., England, Germany, China and Japan).
- Waterproofing: This is probably a moot point, but I found it neat to learn that with a 20BAR/200M rating, you can pretty much use this while scuba diving.
- The rest: It's got 4 regular alarms and one snooze ("persistent") alarm. A stopwatch that lets you measure elapsed time, split time and two finishes. A countdown timer (which is a non-negotiable for me given that it comes in handy whether your cooking something or doing laundry). Full auto-calendar (pre-programmed until the year 2099) and optional 12/24 hour formats.
That's about all I can really think of. I'm *extremely* pleased with my purchase and intend to have long, happy relationship with this watch!
*** REVIEW UPDATE ***
11/8/10 - A few months ago, I noticed that my watch was not holding a charge as well as it had during the first, several months of ownership. I was especially concerned when I encountered the flashing "LOW" battery indicator several times. Since there's no ideal place in my home to place the watch in sunlight to charge (lots of trees and bushes blocking windows), I would resort to setting it on my car dashboard when I went shopping or under a fluorescent lamp at work or home. Usually, this would bring the meter back up to (at least) medium strength. But the process would need to be repeated in 2-3 days. Frustrated, and thinking I picked the watch with a bad battery, I contacted Casio G-shock customer support and explained my predicament. Here is part of the response I received:
"...Solar G-Shocks must be charged, preferably using sun light rather than fluorescent lighting. You would have to leave it under the light for 73 hrs before it even reaches level one. The sun can charge it in about 17-23 hrs total. A watch that isn't charged will last about 9 months before flashing recovery. You can try letting it charge for 2-3 days, it is normal for the watch to stay on Med. If its on High and quickly goes to Low or flashes recovery, you may need to have the solar cell replaced...."
So apparently I was under the impression that charge times were far shorter than what the customer service rep told me (the result of a gross underestimation found in the instruction manual that comes with the watch). Thankfully and happily, I can report that after 3-4 days of leaving my watch in my car to charge during an 8-hour workday, the battery level indicator is once again showing a level 3 (high) charge.
I felt the need to share this update since there may be other users/potential customers who find themselves in a similar situation. (I noticed at least one very negative review which may have been prompted as such). Bottom line, you may need to be patient to get the results you expect from this timepiece.

Casio Men's AQ160W-1BV Ana-Digi Electro-Luminescent Sport Watch Review

Casio Men's AQ160W-1BV Ana-Digi Electro-Luminescent Sport Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the 3rd Casio I buy in the last year... and the cheapest. I previously tried the G601-1AV and later the GW1300A-9AV, both of the G-Shock family. However, I was looking for one with analog and digital time, but easy to read and with night illumination. The G601 is nice, but the small rounded digital displays are a bit too small for my old eyes, and the night illumination is only for the digital displays!. Then I bought the GW1300 because it was advertised as having two LEDs that illuminated the whole face of the watch and was solar powered. True! but... the design is such that when the face is illuminated in the dark, it is so full of shiny surfaces and reflections that you can hardly distinguish the analog hands, and nothing of the digital displays. So, I kept looking and finally decided on this one, the AQ160W with not too much hope... and voila! it was perfect for me! Thinner than the G-Shocks and very light weight, the digital displays are big and easy to read, even if the hands are over them (the digits look gold on day light, very nice, not like the picture here which shows how it looks when the green back light is on). The backlight, with optional auto turn-on, is perfectly readable, and you can see, besides the big numbers, the silhouette of the analog hands over the background. I am ready to give up the 200m water resist, the solar power, the waveceptor auto time set, the automatic handles setting by the digital clock, all for the good design of this watch. It would be perfect if Casio added to this one the solar power and the auto setting of the analog clock. The dual world time, auto calendar, chronometer, timer, multiple alarms, are all common features of these watches however.
The only drawback for me is the extremely thin resin band, which being very confortable, does not look long lasting. I hope I can find replacements in the future.
Anyway, great watch! My search is over...
(I must say that this search would have been much easier if I had the chance to try these watches in a local store before buying, but none of these models were available where I live.)
Update 26/Oct/2009: After 2 years of almost continuous use, the battery still works and the resin band, though not looking like new anymore, has no sign of deterioration. I was wrong thinking that it would break easily. Great watch!
Update July 2010: the battery refuses to die... the resin band has no sign of cracks... so what can I say? The backlight is dimmer though, so I am buying a new one soon. I definitively recommend it.

This just arrived in the mail today and here are my observations:
It's a big watch but it doesn't feel like one. The cuffs on the inside of the band make this the most comfortable G-Shock I've ever owned - especially since I have a fairly small wrist. I had previously ordered the Gulfman because I wanted the Tide Graph but it just didn't fit right and it wasn't comfortable. After searching for another G-Shock with the Tide Graph I found this one (the G7900-1) and it's great. I like the fact that it has 5 alarms and a countdown timer in addition to all of the other features. The styling is nice and modern, it's easy to read, and the red button in the lower right side gives it a nice touch. The moon phase indicator is nice and large too.

Casio Men's G-Shock Tough Solar Watch #G2300B-1V Review

I had other G-shock watches before, but now my skin reacts to the rubber watch band. The nylon mesh band is great, with the velcro adjustment, it was very comfortable. I like the Casio for its ruggedness and the solar power is a great bonus. I went snorkeling with this watch, only about 15ft., but it worked fine, I didn't need to turn on the backlight. The backlight works pretty well low light and dark rooms. The only negative thing about the watch, are the buttons. You need to push them pretty hard to get the function you want. But you get used to it.

Casio Men's G7700-1 G-Shock Trainer Multi-Function Shock Resistant Watch Review

Casio Men's G7700-1 G-Shock Trainer Multi-Function Shock Resistant Watch
Average Reviews:

I bought this watch a week ago at an unbeatable price of $47 incl. tax and shipping (almost 50% off the RRP). What I wanted was a watch that was useful for athletic training (I'm an avid runner and swimmer). What I received was a superb well-rounded G-Shock that surpassed my expectations regarding the purpose of the watch, one that has several unique features that other G-Shocks presently do not feature:
*1/1000 stopwatch with split and 999 lap time functions--perfect for athletic training, getting splits etc. while running or swimming.
*Auto-start feature--a 5 second countdown prior to starting the stopwatch, with cool animated graphics.
*2 100-hour countdown timers, adjustable to the second--ideal for interval training on long runs.
*Customizable alarms for weekend and weekday--great for people like me who have to wake up at 7am on weekdays and noon on weekends without having to constantly switch on/off different alarms.
*Customizable hourly signal--set it so that it only beeps on the hour during any specified period (ie. 7am-11pm), so that it doesn't beep while sleeping.
*Flash alert--red and green LEDs go off in sync with the alarms and stopwatch auto-start systems. With the stopwatch auto-start, the LEDs are employed to create a cool motor races effect by having red lights going off in sync with the countdown and green lights going off at the start itself.
Other features of the watch:
*World time in 48 cities--48 cities is new for me, previous G-Shocks only had 27 or so, perfect for frequent travelers like me.
*EL backlight (blue-green) with auto-EL function.
*A very comfortable strap with good fit, and a thin case (by G-Shock standards) makes for one of the most easy-to-wear G-Shocks ever.
*Buttons are extremely easy to push. Some users have complained that the "G" button on the front of the watch, which activates the EL backlight, is hard to press; that wasn't the case for me.
Some cons:
*EL backlight duration (1 second)--too short for me, especially on a display with so much information, presumably to increase battery life. 2 or 3 seconds would be ideal.
*Non-solar powered--given all the power-hungry features of this watch, solar power would be ideal, so as not to worry about running down the batteries with all the alarms, lights and all.
However, these are minor issues. I'm sure this watch would suit anyone out there--by far one of the most feature-packed yet comfortable-to-wear and stylish G-Shocks out there, perfect for any occasion.

G-Shock Men's Watch G-Shock C-cubed G-8000B-4VDR - WW Review

G-Shock Men's Watch G-Shock C-cubed G-8000B-4VDR - WW

This is my second G8000, I've owned one with the conventional gray background LCD G-Shock Men's Watch G-Shock C-cubed G-8000-1VDR - WW for about two years and of the dozen-plus Casios I own it is the one that sees the most use. The product description for this watch doesn't go into much detail so I'll make up for that in the next few paragraphs- if you'd like the quick overview check out the 'Product Features' portion of the other G8000's page.
For starters the display isn't nearly as deep an orange as the photo depicts. Google other photos to get a better idea of just how orange the display really is. The circular band surrounding the display is a matte metallic finish with a crystal made of scratch-resistant glass, not plastic.
Another aspect of the display that isn't apparent in the photo is the LCD digits can vary in appearance depending on the viewing angle from the normal black to a silver mirror-like color making it difficult to read in low light without using the backlight or turning the display to make use of available lighting.
Yet another unique feature is an LED indicator on the lower right, yellow-orange in color, that blinks in sync with the alarms (3), one of two stopwatch modes, the countdown timer (normal or auto-repeat plus 2 alert modes) and can be set to blink with the signal at the top of the hour. If it sounds complicated, it isn't; Casio watches in general are fairly intuitive to set up. My only complaint about the LED is the placement of its housing above the crystal can sometimes interfere with viewing the seconds display regardless of wearing this on the right or left wrist.
The EL backlight glows yellow-orange and can be set to stay on for 1.5 or 3 seconds when the upper right button is pressed or for automatic operation when turning your wrist to view the display. Automatic operation shuts off after 6 hours to prolong battery life.
Other minor dislikes about the watch: 1) When changing modes there is a lag where only the mode name's abbreviation is displayed (such as STW for stopwatch) before actually displaying any digits although after use this becomes less noticeable. 2) The stopwatch doesn't respond as quickly to the start/stop button as older Casios and the recessed buttons are a further hindrance to quick button presses; this isn't a good stopwatch for measuring sub-one second events with much accuracy. 3) The countdown timer can only be set in one minute increments to a maximum of 23 hours, 59 minutes unlike other G-Shocks' 99 hour 59 minute 59 second max.

Casio G-Shock G-Lide - Slim Design - Black and Blue - Tide Graph and Moon Data Review

Casio G-Shock G-Lide - Slim Design - Black and Blue - Tide Graph and Moon Data

I bought this as my first G-Shock because it features a nice glossy finish and is pretty simple. The design is great and the band fits comfortably. I personally do not use the tide and moon features but the basic functions are certainly there and work perfectly. The face is easy to view even in some low light situations and when needed the backlight is fairly bright. Overall I think this is a great watch for anyone and is certainly not too flashy so u can wear it anywhere, anytime, without hesitating a bit. One more important thing is that the watch doesn't get dirty or scratched which is a major factor even with G-Shocks which are known for their durability.
