Casio Men's AMWS320-1AVCF Tough Solar Black Dial Diver Watch Review

My search is over for a Casio dive-style watch. I went through two returns (AMW320R-1EV and AMW340-1A) before I got this one. Love it. It is way more handsome than the pictures indicate. LED is perfect, size is big without bulk. Style is sharp enough for the office and rugged enough for action. Very easy to navigate through set-up. Never have to buy a battery. Tough crystal face. What can I say...the perfect watch.

Casio Men's WVA320J-1E Atomic Tough Solar Waveceptor Sports Watch Review

Casio Men's WVA320J-1E Atomic Tough Solar Waveceptor Sports Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The watch looks better in person than it does in the pictures. I recommend going to a brick and mortar store before committing on Amazon. The watch looks much better with an after-market nylon zulu/nato strap. Another version with a steel bracelet is offered, but I've heard that the quality on the bracelet is not great, so I recommend after-market bracelets (watch has standard 22mm lugs). The lume on the hands is very bright, unfortunately, the rest of the lume is a little dim, not sure if that is meant on purpose. Weak lume is a non-issue since the watch has a electric light that adequately illuminates the watch. The digital display can be used for a number of things, not just weekday and calendar day indication. It can also display different time zone times, power meter, stop watch, digital time, digital second indicator... etc. Its really cool to see that the digital time is exactly synchronized with the analog time. THIS IS NOT A DIVE WATCH! As far as a I can tell, the watch is not rated for diving, but it is styled after dive watches so I find that a little misleading. The bezel is unidirectional with 120 clicks. The atomic synchronization doesn't seem to work well here in Miami, reception from FT. Collins is poor to non-existent, but that is not Casio's fault. NIST has plans to build a station that will cover the east coast of the US but plans are not set in stone or near the horizon, so I wouldn't hold my breath. Bought the watch at $120 from Amazon (noticed the price went up :( Initially was told that the watch would ship in 1 month! but the actual ship time was a lot shorter in reality. I agree with another reviewer that the watch was a little confusing to setup initially and that the manual was a little confusing but eventually you will figure it out with a little patience.
Bottomline --- Watch is not perfect, it is not dive rated but is probably well suited for all other water activities. Packs plenty of high-tech features in a classic appearance. If you like the dive watch style but don't want the clunkiness of a dive watch, this is it. Casio reliability and quality is legendary.

I bought mine on E-Bay 2 month ago (for only 680$); it's a marvel of accuracy, it receives DCF signal very quickly, in fact twice quicker than my previous Citizen RC Skyhawk (however a very nice timepiece too); Very comfortable to wear, incredibly light thanks to titanium material - case and bracelet - Eye catching and sober at the time, extremely readable both in the light than in darkness, reliable for diving (20 bar waterproof), perfect finish, in short all the japanese know-how at your wrist!

Casio Mens Edifice Black Label Solar - Black Stainless - Yellow and Green Accents

I have this watch and it is awesome! Recommend it to anyone interested in a well built fully featured solar chronograph. The only issue is that I did not buy from Amazon! A third party has jacked up the price because it is in limited quantity (I talked to them personally). $600 is over $100 more than the suggested resale from Casio. Not sure why Amazon permits such but be that as it may, I purchased this elseware at $500 and it was instock. Goodluck...

Happy with this watch despite the photos making it look like the body was a satin finish, it's actually very shiny. I prefer a brushed or satin metal finish, but it still looks good and sits well on my wrist. The buckle on the strap has two(2) tounges instead of the normal, one(1)
Watch is faily heavy, and appears well made, and the strap with buckle is easy to attach, and remove.

Casio Men's WVA430DJ-1A Waveceptor Solar Atomic Ana-Digi Sport Watch Review

Casio Men's WVA430DJ-1A Waveceptor Solar Atomic Ana-Digi Sport Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you want a watch that's good looking and always dead-accurate to the split second without any adjustments, you won't go wrong with this one.
Here are a few observations:
It's lightweight. It weighs about half as much as the other watches I own with stainless steel wristbands, making it very comfortable to wear. The face is large with a simple clean design, making it easy to read. I do need my reading glasses for the digital display.
It's nice looking and goes with just about any kind of outfit from casual to dressy. I wouldn't wear it to the beach or with a tuxedo, but it looks pretty good with just about anything between those extremes. In the display photo, it appears to have a blue-gray face, mine is gray with a faint hint of violet rather than blue. When you look at it you basically see a gray face, but it's a warmer gray than it appears on the web. I think the real thing looks better than the picture.
It's pretty easy to set up. If you've ever set a digital watch, this isn't much different. The main difference is that you have to set the time zone you're in for the correct hour to be displayed. Once that's done, you don't have to worry about it again unless you are traveling and want to change it to different time zones. It's not a difficult procedure. One thing I really like a lot is the watch automatically resetting itself for daylight savings time! Twice a year I have to go through the tedious ritual of changing all of the clocks and watches around the house. It's nice having one wristwatch I don't have to touch. The radio controlled timekeeping works like a charm. The only potential drawback would be traveling outside the range limit of the atomic radio signal. If you are a U.S. customer, the signal range is nearly all of North America. Even if you are out of range, the watch should still keep pretty accurate time and you can always adjust it manually if you need to.
I like the idea of the battery being recharged by solar power. It doesn't require a whole lot of light to do the trick. The specifics are in the instructions. One example is five minutes of direct sunlight equals one full day of power consumption. I got this a couple of months ago during the dead of winter and I live in Minnesota, so it's dark most of the time and the watch is always covered by long sleeves when I'm wearing it. To keep the battery fully charged, I set it near a window instead of putting it in a drawer when I'm not wearing it. In the summer, normal exposure to sunlight with short sleeves when I'm out and about during the day should be more than enough light for a full charge. I should also mention that it will run for months on a full charge without additional light exposure. I'd like to say never having to replace the battery is a great feature, but to my knowledge there's no such thing as a battery with an infinite number of charge/discharge cycles. Assuming I keep and use this watch for many years to come, the battery will eventually wear out, lose it's ability to hold a charge and will have to be replaced. I'm hoping that will be a very, very long time from now.
To sum it up; the watch is no fuss, totally accurate, good looking and comfortable to wear. I can't say enough good things about it!

Genuine Casio Bracelet (22mm, Stainless Steel, AMW320)

This bracelet had a heavy, substantial feel to it. Well made. the only problem with it was the installation using the spring loaded band pins. I used a metal pick to pull back the retractable tips but it still took quite a while to get them to seat right. The band is comfortable and is easy to get on and take off and keep clean.

Casio Men's GWM850-1CR Atomic Solar G Shock Watch Review

Casio Men's GWM850-1CR Atomic Solar G Shock Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just received this watch and have been using it daily. The packaging was excellent, the shipping time was longer than expected due to the inclement weather back East.
My present Casio, the JC-30 has been in service for several years and is finally showing wear and tear. I hope this new Casio watch lasts as many years as the JC-30.
The GWM850-1CR is a sleeker Casio G Shock model than many of the other Casio G Shocks on the market today. It is not as extreme in the height, width and overall size of the watch. It has a sleek and solid appearence and will not stand out on the wrist.
The bezel is made of a clean, smooth appearing stainless steel and will also provide damage protection from everyday use.
The face of the watch is a light shade of gray, with black colored data such as the day, date and time. The face of the watch has a clean and uncluttered appearance with the top window displaying the day and the date. The day and the date is hard to read, the letters and digits are very small. Unless you have excellent eye sight or glasses, this could be a slight problem. This is the only complaint I have about this watch. The top window also displays world time when this feature is activated.
The bottom window displays the horizional battery charge, the solar battery strength, snooze, alarm and sig alerts, solar cell and the time. The numbers are easy to read and the bottom window is well designed.
Directly above the watch data is a textured dark gray colored front with two windows that is both functional and gives the watch a better appearance and quality than you would expect from a watch at this price point.
The four buttons A,B,C,D are well placed and have a slight elevated protective perimeter from the body of the watch so the buttons can not be pressed inadvertently. It takes a bit of pressure to activate the button. Button L, located at the botton center of the watch will provide back light to the watch in low light conditions. The back light is adequate, but not really bright.
The wrist band is made of a textured resin material with duel clasps. The wrist band appears to be molded or structured around the watch and it gives a good looking appearance. I'm hoping that the wrist band is made of a strong and long lasting resin. It is not known how difficult it will be to replace the wrist band when it wears out.
This watch has many features, such as atomic time keeping, solar power, world time, stop watch, count down timer, rally feature, multiple alarms, snooze, hour beeper and auto (EL) back light. The audible alerts are not loud, rather the sound is soft and muted. The watch also has a automatic power saver shutdown in darkness. This feature saves power during non-operation.
The watch also comes with an impressive 119 page manual that provides detailed information about the watch features, functions and how to operate the watch.
Unless you are a rocket scientist or a brain surgeon, it will take a little time and a little effort to understand the methods and procedures to operate all the features:)
Pros: Solar powered, atomic timekeeping, sleek smooth appearing stainless steel bezel and packed with many features. Great watch at price point and well worth the price.
Cons: The top window that displays the font/lettering/numbers for the day and date are small to read.
Conclusion: All in all, this is a well designed watch with a standard size and sleeker design. Also, it is a great watch for the price point.
Update: As of November 2010, I have owned this watch for nine months now and it has performed perfectly.
I wear it everyday and the watch takes significant use and impacts in the work environment. Due to the great construction materials, the watch and the resin wrist band have held up extremely well.
I'm very pleased with the quality and features of this watch.
Jon Green

Casio Men's WVA430J-1 Waveceptor Solar Atomic Ana-Digi Sport Watch Review

Casio Men's WVA430J-1 Waveceptor Solar Atomic Ana-Digi Sport Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm normally not one to write product reviews, but I cannot say enough good things about this watch. In the past, I was a watch collector and rotated among wearing several watches depending upon my activity (work, sports, etc.) and mood (dress, casual, quirky). Since I purchased this watch several years ago on Amazon, I've pretty much abandoned my other watches and wear this one exclusively. It's comfortable, easy-to-read, and looks great for both business and casual wear. It's also the lowest maintenance watch I've ever owned. Because it's solar-powered, I've never had to mess with replacing the battery. And with its atomic clock capability, I've never had to mess with adjusting the time, especially when Daylight Savings Time rolls around. When my wife and I spent two weeks in England last fall, I kept the analog set to our "home" time and used the digital inset for UK time (it is easy to toggle between different time zones in digital mode). Finally, even after wearing it daily for several years, it still looks almost new. I thought I'd be turned off by the plastic band, but it has also turned out to be the most durable watchband I've ever owned. I sure don't miss having to replace batteries and watchbands! If I had to list any cons about this watch, it can be a little tricky to set, but that's mostly because I never have to mess with it and then have to dig out the small print instructions. I also don't use any of the advanced functions like the alarm or stopwatch. Otherwise, I've enjoyed this watch so much that I'm tempted to get a spare in case my trusty original ever wears out.

Other timekeeping features include:

Casio Men's WVAM490D-2A Atomic Waveceptor Sports Watch Review

Casio Men's WVAM490D-2A Atomic Waveceptor Sports Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is an update to the following review. After one month of normal wear, the band pin pulled thorugh the resin case. I sent the watch in to the Casio service center in Dover NJ for repair. After a month, I called but was unable to get through. I sent an email via the [...] website stating my issues. I received a prompt reply stating that my watch was un repairable and that it would be replaced with another style. The WVA-320J was suggested. This watch is a superior timepiece in that the case is completely stainless steel. The only drawback, and the reason I did not choose this model to start with is that it is a bigger watch. It is in the dive watch style and, though not as big as most dive watches, it is bigger than the 490D. After choosing the 320J, it was shipped promptly and arrived the following week. In the end, the resin case of the 490D was its only drawback, but it proved to be critical. As has been said, if the case were stainless, it would be outstanding. As it is, the delicate nature of the resin case makes it a risk.
This is a very nice watch. It compares favorably with a Seiko/Tag Heuer/Omega. And, prioritizing accuracy and functionality, it surpasses high end sport/dress watches. It is a slimmer watch than most regarding case thickness, but the diameter is comparable to the turning bevel fake dive watch chronographs. I am replacing two watches: a Seiko chronograph and a Casio Databank 150. This watch fills both those needs and admirably fits the bill for an everyday work watch (I'm a pilot) as well as a dress watch.
It fits well and looks very nice. The analogue hands are a classy look and the digital window is large enough to read and use, without overwhelming the analogue look. It has dual time, alarm, on-hour beeps, stopwatch, day-date and seconds read-out in the digital window, as well as the timesetting and watch management functions. There is not second hand, but the seconds are always visible in the digital window. It will continually display either day-date or digital time (either same time zone or dual time). It has illumination for the entire face including the digital window as well as luminescent hands and numbers. Its weight is heavy enough to feel substantial but not overly heavy. The band is stainless steel along with the face cover. Obviously it is accurate. It resets itself every night according to the clock in Fort Collins. The solar cell face continually keeps the battery charged and seems to work with very little light. This works extremely well and is everything I had hoped it would be. The watch is water resistant, claimed to be good for up to "water-related work and swimming".
On the other hand, this is not a stainless steel case. It is a resin case with stainless front and back covers. Resin is visible from all views, though it blends well with the stainless. I was taken aback at first, but have grown accustomed to it and don't mind. The resin is difficult to see without close inspection. The instruction book is small, though not out of the ordinary for a watch instruction book. The band has a two-button clasp that grasps a post. This seems to work well and holds securely. However, adjusting the band is difficult. It has pins that must be driven out. This is a delicate operation. I chose to take it to a watch shop for adjustment and was advised that many people were ruining this type band by driving the pins out themselves. Further, there is only one clasp adjustment slot. It gives you about a quarter inch of self adjustment.
All in all this is exactly what I was looking for. It has a classic elegance with the analogue face. It has the size and weight of the sport/dress watches but is slim enough to not snag on your sleeve. Where it shines is in utility. It is a true multi-function, highly accurate timepiece that is well laid out and easy to use. I am very satisfied with the watch.

Casio Men's LIW500DJ-1A Edifice Sporty Solar Atomic Watch Review

Casio Men's LIW500DJ-1A Edifice Sporty Solar Atomic Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've only had this watch for a few days, but I'm very happy with it. If it turns out to be reliable over time, it'll be the best I've ever owned. It deals with the two most annoying aspects of watches I've had in the past--replacing batteries and regularly resetting to the correct time. This watch can reset itself automatically several times a day, and it runs on natural or artificial light-power.
Notwithstanding some of reviews I've read elsewhere, I can't say that reading the dials on this watch is any different or more difficult than several other chronographs I've owned; and I've found that the back-light feature works very well, both in the automatic mode, when the wrist is turned a certain way, and manually by pressing one of the buttons. However, the watch can be programmed so that this feature is permanently off.
I would rate this watch with five stars except for the User's Guide. It's incredibly small, so it's very difficult to follow the rather complex directions for setting the watch and using its various functions, such as the stop-watch and alarm. Having said that, however, a much more readable User's Guide is available online from Casio at no charge.
On balance, when compared to watches that are not programmable, there is a steeper learning curve involved in the set-up of this watch and becoming familiar with its functions, so it's not for technophobes or the electronically challenged.

With a classic chronograph design, the Casio Men's Edifice Sporty Solar Atomic Watch #LIW500DJ-1A is both fashionable and user friendly. In addition to a handsome silver stainless steel band with a fold-over-clasp-with-double-push-button-safety clasp, this Casio has attractive sub dials at the six, nine, and 12 o'clock positions. There's also a small digital display at the four o'clock position for keeping tabs on the date. By positioning the LCD screen at four o'clock, the LCD not only reads easily, it also functions as a reference sub-display for its 1/100th second stopwatch. To further enhance visibility, the watch employs an automatic LED light with Afterglow that automatically activates when the watch is tilted in the dark. Not only is this watch attractive and user friendly, it will never need resetting or batteries--this atomic watch can reset itself automatically several times a day, and runs on artificial or natural light. Water resistant to 165 feet (50 meters), this Casio keeps time with reliable Japanese quartz movement.
