Casio Men's AW80D-7A Sports Chronograph Alarm 10-Year Battery Databank Watch Review

Casio Men's AW80D-7A Sports Chronograph Alarm 10-Year Battery Databank Watch

I like a watch with analog hands, but with digital features. Since they are hard to find these days, I ordered this one.
The good:
The LCD portion of the watch is very easy to read.
The watch seems accurate so far.
The analog portion of the watch is controlled by the digital, so it should stay as accurate as the digital portion. (The minute hand clicks 1/3 of a minute every 20 seconds.)
The bad:
The digital portion of the watch has so many features that it is difficult to use. Do I really need three alarms? The watch can store 30 phone numbers in it. Ten years ago that could have been useful, but now I store all my numbers in my cell phone. To make use of all these features, I'd need to carry around the instruction manual (which is 100 pages long, if you include the English, Spanish, and warrantee--although the pages are small).
The watch has no second hand. Sometimes I like to use one to time short things. Yes, there is a built in stop watch, but it is as hard to use as all the other digital features. (But my guess is the lack of a second hand will extend battery life.)
The band grabbed the hair on my arm. I had to go out and buy a twist-o-flex.
There is no stem to set the analog portion of the watch. Instead, you go into handsetting mode in the digital portion, and push a button and wait for the hands to move forward to the correct time. To set the hands forward 11 hours to go off of DST took several minutes.
The watch has a DST setting. It sets the digital portion of the watch ahead an hour. But it doesn't automatically go back after DST ends. So you still need to adjust the watch. It's not much easier than just resetting the time. And it doesn't affect the analog hands.
The watch has a world time feature. You can quickly find out the time in Bangkok. But don't expect to use this on your vacation to keep track of the local time. Press any button and you will return to your local time.
The ugly:
The analog hands are hard to read. They are a light color on a white background.
There is too much writing on the watch. Not only is it ugly, but it is easy to confuse the "10 YEAR BATTERY" label next to the 3 for a minute hand.
There is a backlight for the analog portion at the push of a button. But it doesn't give quite enough light, and it goes out after a second even if you leave the button pushed in. There is no backlight for the digital portion.

A great choice for globetrotters, this stylish Casio analog-digital stainless steel watch for men combines the timeless look of an analog watch with the functionality of a digital watch. The round watch case has a raised bezel that frames the silvery blue dial, which includes a full Arabic numeral display and luminous dagger-style hands. A digital window sits above 6 o'clock displays time from a second time zone, thanks to the integrated world time function with 29 time zones (30 cities). You can also store short notes on the 30-page databank (with 8 letters and 6 numerals per page).
The watch includes a stopwatch that can time events down to 1/100 of a second, and features a 24-hour capacity, split time, and 1st-2nd place times, as well as a countdown timer with a 24-hour capacity. Other timekeeping features include four daily alarms (with one snooze alarm), hourly time signal (which can be turned off), and 12/24-hour formats. This watch also offers a ±30-second accuracy per month, Afterglow backlighting, Auto Calendar (pre-programmed until the year 2039), and water resistance to 165 feet (50 M) -- offering protection from accidental splashes as well suitable for swimming, snorkeling, and light recreational diving. It has a battery life of up to 10 years.

Casio Men's AW80D-2AV Sports Chronograph Alarm 10-Year Battery Databank Watch Review

This is a great watch for the price; it looks much more expensive than what I paid through Amazon would indicate. The digital subsection is unobtrusive to the analog look and still quite informative when using the watch's timing and countdown features, and also displays nicely the day and date by default. I don't use either of the two alarms but I'm guessing they work as advertised as well. The band is comfortable and easy to adjust size wise; it's small by default but fits my bigger wrist just fine after I slid the pin out a bit.
I'm guessing not too many people would care about the `memory bank' feature these days, since my cell phone and everyone else's contain all the numbers I can't remember, but I programmed mine to set one emergency number. Who knows, that may come into play if I'm unable to supply that information myself, I don't wear an emergency bracelet and the info is one button away so it's a nice to have feature.
Overall, I have a few more expensive watches and wear them when the occasion fits, but this has quickly become my everyday watch and I'm quite happy with it.

Casio Men's Analog Watch Watch with Databank Model AW-81D-7AV Review

I looked at a lot of watches and this looked like exactly what I wanted. And when I got it I found that it was!! And the price is too good to believe. I had to adjust the watch band and that was a hassle until I figured out how to do it. No instructions for this in the manual. Look on the Internet under adjusting Casio watch bands and use a VERY small jeweler's screwdriver.

Casio Men's Watch AW81D-7AV Review

Casio Men's Watch AW81D-7AV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this watch approx 5 years ago, STILL WORKS LIKE AND LOOKS LIKE NEW! Now let me tell you why that is so incredible. At the time I purchased this wrist watch I was working as a security officer at a large Hospital in OKC,OK. This watch gave me the ability to view an analog face and set the digital time to 24 hr time and would light up. These things where critical to me as I had to keep a detailed log on all activity and I worked over night shift. As a security officer at this hospital I came into contact with hundreds of physically violent patients in the E.R. and also in the Behavioral Center(Mental Ward). So physical restraining patients to keep them from hurting themselves, staff or visitors was a daily event. Any where from once a night to 15 times a night, thankfully 15 times in one shift was not a frequent occurrence. So any watch that can stand up to that kind of abuse on a every day basis, for me is some what mind blowing for a watch in this price range. I've can say that this watch and every Casio I've ever owned has far exceeded my expectations of quality and durability. I've made several purchases off Amazon.com and have never had any problems(in excess of 25 over three years). Now having said all this I will add this as a word of caution. All companies have fluke problems with products, it's only natural. That is why they have customer support. Amazon has always been more than helpful with returns on defective products that slip through the cracks. I'm very pleased with them and all the products I've bought. And I'm about to buy this same watch for my son as a graduation present. So I hope this helps anyone looking at this review make an informed decision.
Respectfully
Nathan C.
