(More customer reviews)I've used this watch for more than 20 years, and it fits my needs quite well. I am old enough (56) to prefer an analog face; this one has excellent visibility because of the high contrast between dial and hands, so I can sneak a quick glance without appearing rude. (And it's nice to have the day and date in the little digital window.)
I don't need an altimeter, food processor, and phases of the moon on my watch, nor does my wrist need to make a statement about who I am. It's decent looking enough that I wear it in all but the most formal settings.
When we're in a dark theater, my partner with the expensive watch is always making me light up the dial on my watch to see the time!
I also like water resistance and a fair amount of durability, since I'm forgetful and unkind to watches. If I were to destroy it, it's cheap to replace. When the clear plastic face gets light scratches, I buff it with toothpaste. After 10 years, my first one of these bit the dust (the strap gave out), but I was delighted to discover it still being sold on Amazon.

Casio Men's AW590-1A G-Shock Ana-Digi Chronograph Sport Watch Review

(More customer reviews)I spent some time researching every G-Shock offered by Casio and narrowed it down to the AW590-1A for several reasons.
-> I prefer traditional battery over Tough Solar. I have read numerous negative reviews about the rechargable batteries giving out anywhere from 1-5 years and in the end are very difficult to replace.
-> This watch uses a larger CR1220 battery which Casio estimates will last about 3 years and is easily replaceable.
-> The AW590-1A uses round metal buttons, and not the cheaper rectangular plastic ones on some other G-Shocks, which can get "squeaky" and wear out.
Now on to the watch itself. You need to set the analog time separate from the digital, however they do sync up perfectly once both are set. The analog minute hand moves every 20 seconds and seems very refined.
The top led bar simply ticks off every 10 seconds while the left circle shows numeric seconds. The bottom circle shows whether certain functions are activated, like DST, alarm, snooze, hourly signal and split time in the stop watch function. The left circle does the most: in normal time mode it can be toggled to show month/date, day of the week or digital time. It has a nice resolution and also serves as the stopwatch and countdown timer.
World time is cool as only the left circle changes to show you the digital time in another time zone, while the analog stays in your home zone, allowing you to compare times instantly.
The watch has a whopping five separate alarms, one of which has a snooze function. I don't find the need to have that many alarms but some may find it useful. Countdown and stopwatch are nothing special, pretty much what you expect.
There is also an Auto LED feature which I find an unnecessary battery drainer. Once enabled, a quick upward motion of the wrist automatically causes the light to come on. I found that you can quite often set the light off unintentionally. Luckily you can disable this feature.
The physical dimensions of the watch are a good combination of form and function. The mineral crystal face is recessed nicely and protected well but still offers a clear view with a quick glance.
Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase and would highly recommend this watch to anyone who genuinely appreciates Casio's G-Shock line watches.

(More customer reviews)After about seven years of great service, my wrist now bears a dead AMW320D (great name, eh, really trips off the tongue). I went in for my third battery replacement and the jeweler told me that corrosion had eaten away at the movement. The first time I replaced the battery I learned that the seal had to be broken and the watch might no longer resist water. The soft rubbery plastic strap died long ago, replaced by a superior twist-o-flex-style metal wrist band.
Now you might think I'm dissatisfied. But I intend to order another the minute (or so -- I don't have a working watch) I finish writing this review. Why? It has been a great watch. Analog plus digital gives me easy-to-read intuitive time checking, along with all the bells and whistles of silicon: multiple times, alarm, stop watch, and calendar. The outer ring on the face lets me rotate the "north" arrow to a future time, say 45 minutes from now, and I know time's up when the minute hand gets there. (I have no idea why the face ring has compass points and degrees marked on it -- to fool one's friends?) The watch has been rugged, holding up to the shock of using hoes and axes, although I didn't push my luck if I remembered to take it off.
I'm looking at my old friend, now motionless and blank, and figure he had a pretty good run. Time's up for this timepiece, at a cost of a little more than $10 per year. Since I bought the last one on display at Mervyn's, I didn't get a box or manual and didn't even know what it was called AMW320D until looking it up on the web just now. AMW320D I didn't even know your name all these great years together.

Worked fine for a week, then the analog display started lagging off and didn't keep the same time as the digital display like it should. Also the crystal scratches up easily, where it is difficult to read the display. Overall lousy performance for a watch that sells for $40.00.
